President Duma Boko Launches Landmark New Botswana CCity. President Advocate Duma Boko today officially launched New Botswana City, a transformative development project set to redefine the country’s urban and economic landscape.
The initiative is being undertaken through a partnership between the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) and Dubai-based Albaddad, and is located within the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport Special Economic Zone.
At the heart of the project will be Botswana’s first world-class Exhibition and Convention Centre, complemented by a modern business district, hotels, residential developments, retail facilities, and integrated smart city infrastructure. With an estimated investment of US$2 billion, the development is expected to generate between 25,000 and 37,500 direct and indirect jobs once fully operational.
Beyond employment creation, the city is envisioned as a hub for investment, tourism, trade, and skills transfer, while also opening opportunities for citizen-owned businesses.
President Boko described the launch as a milestone in Botswana’s journey toward a diversified, inclusive, and globally competitive economy. “Today, we usher in a new era and a foray into the realm of the spectacular,” he said.
The project’s strategic location within the airport’s Special Economic Zone positions it to attract international conferences, exhibitions, and investors, while strengthening Botswana’s role as a regional hub for business and innovation.
As construction progresses, New Botswana City is expected to serve as a model for sustainable urban development, combining modern infrastructure with opportunities that empower local communities
