Pandamatenga Grain Silos Boost Botswana’s Agricultural Capacity. The Pandamatenga Grain Silos Project, developed through a partnership between the Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) and the Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB), is proving to be a strategic investment with far-reaching benefits for Botswana’s agricultural sector.

The new silos have added 60,000 metric tonnes of grain storage capacity, bringing Pandamatenga’s total to 90,000 metric tonnes. This expansion provides safe, efficient, and large-scale grain storage, helping preserve the quality of produce while reducing post-harvest losses. For commercial farmers in the region, the facility has already made a difference by offering reliable infrastructure that allows them to focus on production without the constant concern of inadequate storage.

BAMB contributed technical expertise and specifications to ensure operational success, while SEZA’s involvement reflects its broader commitment to promoting value addition and agro-processing within the Pandamatenga Special Economic Zone and across the country. The project is seen as a foundation for building a more sophisticated agricultural value chain, enabling Botswana to move beyond primary production toward structured and competitive agribusiness.

The silos also play a pivotal role in advancing the Botswana Mercantile Exchange (BMX). By ensuring consistent quality, quantity, and storage of grain, the facility supports structured grain trading, improves market access, and enhances price transparency. This integration strengthens Botswana’s ability to compete in regional and international markets.

As Botswana continues to prioritize food security and economic diversification, the Pandamatenga Grain Silos stand as a clear example of how strategic partnerships can drive sustainable growth. By combining technical expertise, infrastructure investment, and a vision for value addition, the project reinforces the country’s ambition to build a resilient and competitive agribusiness sector.
