Ndiko Muzila Champions Self-Reliance at Youth Explosion. The Youth Explosion Mentorship Program, founded by Miss Ndiko Muzila, has become a transformative platform for young people, offering practical skills and inspiration to start small and thrive with available resources.
Yesterday’s gathering drew over 200 attendees to a packed hall in Botswana, where chairs were scarce as participants arrived eager to engage in the newly launched Self-Reliance Conversation. Muzila emphasized that self-reliance, one of the nation’s five guiding principles, has faded from practice over the years, often replaced by entitlement and declining productivity.
“The time has come to reclaim self-reliance as a national dialogue,” she said, noting that the principle must once again guide young people toward independence and productivity. Six young individuals were celebrated for their resilience and ability to remain productive against all odds, serving as role models for their peers.Muzila also announced that she is authoring a book on self-reliance, set to launch later this year, with plans to promote the conversation nationwide. Her vision is to reignite the principle as a cornerstone of Botswana’s development ethos.
The event featured several distinguished speakers, including philanthropist Gogontlejang Phaladi Mororkotso, who urged youth to shed entitlement and embrace responsibility. Other speakers included Mr. Thayaone Dichaba of DITEC, Mr. Moemedi Senwelo of Crack It Botswana, and Miss Peace Mogale of SHANGU Footwear.
The central message echoed throughout the program: self-reliance does not mean rejecting support, but rather avoiding dependence on others for everything. Speakers highlighted how overreliance on government has stifled dreams before they could be realized, urging young people to take initiative and create opportunities.
