De Beers Group Highlights Future-Focused Human Capital LLeadership. At the Industrial Relations Conference in Gaborone, held under the theme “Modern Workplace, Modern HR: The Strategic Imperative”, De Beers Group reinforced its commitment to advancing strategic human capital leadership in today’s evolving workplace.
Speaking at the event, Oankgoga Mongwaketse, People Partner – Diamond Trading at De Beers Group, emphasized that the future of work requires a more adaptive, people-centered, and technology-driven approach to human resources. She noted that HR leaders must move beyond administrative functions to become strategic partners in driving business growth, innovation, and employee wellbeing.
Mongwaketse highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence, hybrid work models, and ongoing technological disruption, stressing that technology should be seen as an enabler rather than a threat. By enhancing productivity, technology allows employees to focus on higher-value responsibilities.
Reflecting on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, she pointed out that remote working proved both practical and effective, prompting organizations to rethink traditional models. In line with this shift, De Beers Group has adopted a hybrid working model, enabling employees to work remotely three days a week while spending two days in the office to foster collaboration and human connection.
Mongwaketse further underscored that modern HR leadership requires professionals to have a seat at the decision-making table, understand broader business strategies, and design people-focused solutions aligned with organizational goals. She described future-focused leadership as one that values employees, embraces workplace flexibility, and ensures workers feel recognized, appreciated, and included in transformation journeys.
This perspective reflects De Beers Group’s broader commitment to shaping workplaces that balance innovation with human connection, positioning HR as a strategic driver of organizational success.
