BTO and Gambling Authority Strengthen Ties for Tourism Diversification. The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) and the Gambling Authority have taken steps toward a strategic collaboration aimed at boosting tourism growth and supporting economic diversification. On 11 May 2026, BTO Acting Chief Executive Officer Justice Ofentse paid a courtesy call on Gambling Authority CEO Moruntshi Kemorwale, opening discussions on how the two institutions can align their efforts.
The engagement focused on areas such as gaming tourism, destination marketing, sports tourism, and investment promotion. Both leaders emphasized the potential of the gaming and entertainment sector to enhance Botswana’s tourism value proposition, creating experiences that encourage longer visitor stays and broaden the country’s appeal.
Among the topics discussed were collaborative domestic tourism campaigns linked to national events. Such initiatives are seen as vital in driving local tourism while showcasing Botswana’s rich cultural and adventure offerings.
BTO also highlighted investment opportunities in Kasane, including prime land available for hospitality developments such as hotels with casino facilities. These projects are expected to enhance competitiveness and improve visitor experiences. Opportunities around dam tourism were also explored, with reference to integrated leisure developments similar to Sun City in South Africa, aimed at creating immersive tourism and entertainment hubs.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and ensuring that future strategies incorporate synergies between tourism and gaming. The partnership is expected to contribute to a more diversified and resilient tourism sector, aligning with Botswana’s broader vision of sustainable economic growth.
