Botswana to Launch Landmark World Trade Centre in Gaborone. In a major announcement during May Day commemorations in Letlhakane, President Advocate Duma Boko revealed that Botswana will soon host a world-class convention and exhibition facility in Gaborone. The World Trade Centre Convention and International Exhibition Centre is set to be unveiled in the first week of June, with construction beginning immediately thereafter.

President Boko emphasized that the project, valued in the billions of pulas, has already undergone feasibility studies and design evaluations. “This is an evaluated project that has passed the feasibility study, and the investors are ready,” he stated, underscoring the readiness of stakeholders to move forward without delay.

The initiative follows closely on the heels of the Maun 500MW Solar Project, another large-scale investment aimed at transforming Botswana’s economic landscape. Together, these projects signal a strategic push to position the country as a hub for sustainable energy and international commerce.

World Trade Centre convention centres are globally recognized as premier venues for hosting international conventions, trade shows, exhibitions, and corporate events. They are typically part of the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) network, which as of May 2020 included 323 licensed properties across 90 countries, supported by approximately 15,000 professionals. The WTCA serves as a global connector for corporations and government agencies engaged in international trade.

The upcoming Gaborone facility is expected to provide large-scale event spaces and business services designed to foster networking, trade, and economic development. For Botswana, this represents not only a significant infrastructure investment but also an opportunity to elevate its profile on the global stage.

By combining modern design with international standards, the project aims to create a benchmark for conferencing and exhibitions in Southern Africa, reinforcing Botswana’s ambition to diversify its economy and attract global partnerships.
