Botswana Launches Tourism Statistics Dashboard to Drive Sector Growth. Botswana’s tourism sector reached a defining milestone today with the official launch of the Tourism Statistics Dashboard, a digital platform designed to transform how the industry measures, understands, and accelerates growth.

Developed through a partnership between the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Dashboard represents a deliberate shift toward data-driven governance. It embodies a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and empowering stakeholders with accessible knowledge.

Officiating at the launch, the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Hon. Wynter Mmolotsi, described the Dashboard as a bridge between evidence and action. He emphasized its ability to track visitor trends, measure sector performance, and quantify tourism’s contribution to key economic indicators such as GDP, employment, and investment. The Minister noted that the platform strengthens Botswana’s capacity for evidence-based policy formulation, aligning directly with national priorities under the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) and the forthcoming National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12).

Acknowledging the importance of collaboration, the Minister commended the Government of Japan and JICA for their technical support, alongside national institutions such as Statistics Botswana and the Botswana Tourism Organisation, which will host the platform on their websites to ensure accessibility and integrity.

Calling for sustained cooperation, the Minister urged all data-producing entities to maintain consistency in updating the Dashboard, stressing that its strength lies in the reliability of its inputs. He reiterated that data must serve as a catalyst for inclusive growth, sustainable strategies, and impactful decision-making.

As Botswana advances its tourism agenda, the Tourism Statistics Dashboard stands not only as a technological innovation but also as a strategic compass, guiding the sector toward resilience, competitiveness, and a future defined by insight and intentional progress.
