Kazungula Border Post to Begin 24-Hour Operations on April 1. Preparations are in full swing for the Kazungula One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) to transition to 24-hour operations, with full implementation scheduled for April 1.

Speaking at a recent Chobe District Development Committee meeting, Kazungula Bridge Authority (KBA) executive director, Mr. Mukela Muyonda, confirmed that the rollout had been fast-tracked. The move follows a directive from Presidents Advocate Duma Boko and Hakainde Hichilema, who called for the border post to operate continuously, with the long-term goal of establishing a non-stop facility.

The Zambia Revenue Authority has already piloted 24-hour operations after a strategic meeting with the KBA, while other border agencies continue to build momentum ahead of the official launch. The coordinated effort reflects a commitment to enhancing efficiency and strengthening regional integration.

Mr. Muyonda further informed the committee that the KBA’s mandate has been broadened by the two member states. Beyond managing the Kazungula Bridge, the authority is now tasked with transforming into a regional investment platform. This expanded role aims to catalyse development in logistics, tourism, agriculture, and related supply chains, positioning the OSBP as a driver of economic growth.

The transition to 24-hour operations is expected to improve trade facilitation, reduce congestion, and enhance the movement of goods and people across the border. By extending operating hours, the OSBP will provide greater flexibility for transporters and businesses, while supporting broader regional economic objectives.

The April 1 launch represents a significant milestone in the evolution of the Kazungula OSBP, reinforcing its role as a strategic gateway for Southern Africa.
