Thapong Visual Arts Centre Launches Craft Exhibition with FNB Foundation Support. The Thapong Visual Arts Centre officially launched its Craft Exhibition on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, in partnership with the FNB Foundation. The event marked a celebration of Botswana’s rich craft traditions and was attended by dignitaries, artists, and cultural enthusiasts.

The launch was graced by the presence of Mr. Tebogo Matebesi, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Sport and Arts, Mr. Gaokgakala Lemmenyane, Chief Executive Officer of the National Arts Council of Botswana (NACB), Mr. Mesh Moeti, Acting Board Chairperson of Thapong Visual Arts Centre, Ms. Chebukani Nkobodo from the FNB Foundation, and special guest Dr. Alisa LaGamma from the Metropolitan Museum in the United States.

The exhibition showcases a diverse collection of traditional Setswana crafts, including baskets, woodwork, and tapestry, with a particular focus on supporting and recognizing women artisans from communities such as Gumare, Oodi, Shorobe, Shakawe, Etsha 6, and others. These crafts highlight the enduring cultural heritage and creativity that continue to enrich Botswana’s artistic landscape.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Lemmenyane applauded the FNB Foundation for its ongoing support of the creative and cultural industries. He also commended the development of Botswana Arts Online, a digital platform enabling Thapong artists to sell their products online. “The arts are an exportable asset. By investing in our creative industries, Botswana can expand cultural tourism, generate foreign exchange, and strengthen its cultural identity on the global stage,” he said.

Closing the ceremony, Lemmenyane reaffirmed NACB’s commitment to supporting and developing the creative sector, emphasizing collaboration with stakeholders across the industry.

The Thapong Craft Exhibition will run from 17 March 2026 until 2 April 2026, offering visitors an opportunity to experience and celebrate Botswana’s vibrant craft traditions.
