Dynamic Road Services’ Shingi Chaza Credits Stanford Seed for Business Expansion. Shingi Chaza, of Dynamic Road Services, says participation in the Stanford Seed Transformation Programme, powered by De Beers Group, played a pivotal role in strengthening the company’s growth strategy and expanding its operations in the regional logistics sector.
Chaza, an admitted attorney, joined the family business in 2016 after several years in legal practice. Founded in 1992 by her father, Dynamic Road Services operates in cross-border freight, transporting cargo across Southern Africa, primarily between Botswana and South Africa, with additional operations in Namibia and Zimbabwe.
As a second-generation entrepreneur, Chaza explained that the programme helped her gain clarity about her leadership role and the company’s future direction. “When I joined the business, it had already been operating for more than two decades. As a second-generation leader, you naturally experience some uncertainty about where you fit in and how to drive the next phase of growth. The programme gave me confidence and a clearer sense of purpose,” she said.
Chaza was part of the first Stanford Seed cohort in 2018, describing it as a unique opportunity to gain world-class business training focused on scaling African enterprises. One of the most significant outcomes was the company’s expansion into bulk coal transport, a highly competitive and capital-intensive segment. Through relationships built in the programme, she partnered with a fellow participant to launch the venture, beginning with two side-tipper trucks. By 2022, the fleet had grown to six company-owned units, with two subcontracted trucks, contributing roughly a third of the company’s total revenue.
Beyond financial growth, Chaza emphasized that the programme fostered a strong entrepreneurial network and introduced strategic tools that continue to guide decision-making. “You will sweat, but the rewards are worth it. The programme equips you with the mindset, tools and networks needed to take your business to the next level,” she said.
