CEDA to Inject P950 Million into MSMEs in 2026/27. The Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) has announced plans to fund Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with a total of P950 million during the 2026/27 financial year, providing a significant boost to citizen-owned businesses and economic participation.

The projected approvals reflect a bold commitment to strengthening the citizen economy and accelerating growth across key sectors. In the current financial year ending 31 March 2026, CEDA has already funded 586 MSMEs with P230 million, resulting in the creation of 744 new jobs while sustaining 835 existing positions. This impact underscores the agency’s role in employment creation and enterprise stability.

Performance indicators highlight strong financial stewardship. According to the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship, collections exceeded target by 28%, reaching P337 million against a benchmark of P264 million. This rare overperformance in credit management demonstrates improved repayment culture and operational efficiency within citizen enterprises.

Sectoral allocation shows strategic prioritisation, with agribusiness absorbing 47% of funding and the services sector accounting for 43%. This balanced focus supports food security, value addition, and service-driven growth, aligning with national development priorities.

Meanwhile, the Wealth Creation Programme continues to deliver encouraging results. Since inception, it has funded 41,869 enterprises, with 73% still operational and collectively employing more than 34,000 people.

“This reflects strengthened credit management and resilience within citizen enterprises,” said Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Tiroeaone Ntsima.

With the planned P950 million injection for 2026/27, CEDA is positioning itself as a central driver of MSME growth, job creation, and sustainable citizen economic empowerment. The initiative is expected to further entrench the role of citizen-owned businesses in Botswana’s economic diversification agenda.
