Vice President Urges Swift Implementation of Agricultural Investment Projects. Vice President Ndaba Gaolathe has called on Batswana to move quickly in implementing agricultural investment projects, stressing the need for action, investment, and tangible projects on the ground.

Speaking at the launch of the Botswana Agriculture Business and Investment Forum at the Royal Aria Convention Centre yesterday, Gaolathe highlighted agriculture’s role in driving economic diversification as the country works to reduce its reliance on diamonds.

The two-day forum, held under the theme Catalysing Investments in Agri-Food Systems for Inclusive Growth and Food Sovereignty, brought together government officials, farmers, investors, development partners, and other stakeholders. Gaolathe emphasized that agriculture must contribute more significantly to Botswana’s economy, with government targeting an increase in the sector’s share of GDP from 2 percent to at least 6 percent in the short term..

He urged investors to channel resources into agro-processing, food production, cold storage, seed production, and modern farming technologies. Gaolathe assured participants that government would create a supportive environment, but stressed that businesses and farmers must take the lead in growing the sector.

Delivering welcome remarks, Kgosi Puso Gaborone of Batlokwa encouraged communities to protect their land and use it productively rather than selling it for short-term gain. He noted that Tlokweng is working towards becoming a “smart, modern village” that blends tradition with development and creates opportunities for young people.

The forum continues with discussions aimed at attracting more investment into Botswana’s agriculture sector, strengthening food security, and positioning agriculture as a cornerstone of the country’s economic transformation agenda.
