Botswana and Zambia Sign Kazungula Bridge Host Agreement to Boost Regional Trade. Botswana and Zambia have formally signed Addendum No. 3 to the bilateral agreement governing the sponsorship, construction, and operation of the Kazungula Bridge, reinforcing their commitment to regional integration and infrastructure-led development.
The two governments also executed a Host Country Agreement between Botswana and the Kazungula Bridge Authority (KBA), paving the way for the Authority’s permanent offices to be established in Botswana. This move strengthens Botswana’s strategic role in overseeing the operational and administrative functions of the landmark cross-border infrastructure.
The addendum was signed by Botswana’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Noah Salakae, and Zambia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Charles Milupi. The Host Agreement was further endorsed by KBA Executive Director, Mukela Muyunda, alongside Minister Salakae.
Ahead of the official launch of the KBA, members of the media were taken on a guided tour of the Kazungula Border Post, one of the busiest trade corridors in the region. The facility serves as a critical gateway for the movement of food products, mining commodities, and essential services destined for markets across Africa.
The corridor not only facilitates trade between Botswana and Zambia but also connects onward to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Morocco, and other key African markets. By improving efficiency and reducing transit times, the Kazungula Bridge continues to play a pivotal role in unlocking broader economic value for the region.
The latest agreements underscore the determination of both nations to deepen cooperation, enhance trade connectivity, and strengthen the foundations of sustainable growth. With the establishment of the KBA’s permanent offices, Botswana and Zambia are positioning the Kazungula Bridge as a cornerstone of regional commerce and integration.
