Private Sector-Led Housing Development Boosts Bonno National PProgramme. The launch of The Residency, a landmark housing project in Bonno, has underscored the growing role of private sector-led development in advancing Botswana’s national housing agenda. The project, unveiled by Letsema Property Fund and presented by Messidor Investments, was officiated by the Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Onneetse Ramogapi.

Delivering 135 modern residences, The Residency is positioned as a practical response to the country’s pressing housing needs. With serviced land and contemporary infrastructure at its core, the development highlights how private investment can complement government efforts in addressing human settlement challenges.

Minister Ramogapi emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and business, noting that such partnerships create opportunities for young working Batswana to own property. “As the government, we are not competitors of the private sector but we are supporters. Therefore, for many young working Batswana this comes as an opportunity for them to be able to own property,” he said.

The project has already delivered economic benefits beyond housing. More than 236 Batswana were employed during the construction phase, injecting income into households and supporting local skills development. This impact demonstrates how infrastructure projects can simultaneously tackle housing shortages and stimulate job creation.

Assistant Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Keoagile Atamelang, described The Residency as a blueprint for Botswana’s urban future. He highlighted that the development reflects the country’s vision of well-planned, well-located communities, efficient land use, and strategic partnerships that translate into shared prosperity.

The unveiling of The Residency marks a significant milestone in Botswana’s housing sector, showcasing how citizen-driven investments can deliver both social and economic transformation.
