Botswana and Côte d’Ivoire Explore Resource Sector Cooperation at Ministerial Meeting. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Botswana’s Minister of Minerals and Energy, hosted Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly and his delegation from Côte d’Ivoire to discuss potential partnerships in the mining and energy sectors.

The engagement focused on opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing between the two countries, particularly in resource management and sector development. Members of the Ivorian delegation expressed interest in learning from Botswana’s experience in managing natural resources and sustaining a mining industry over several decades.

Discussions included approaches to negotiating commercial partnerships with multinational mining companies and maintaining long term sector stability. Botswana’s resource governance framework and operational experience were highlighted as areas of interest for knowledge exchange.

Kenewendo indicated that Botswana is prepared to share technical expertise developed through years of operating major mining projects. She said the country has accumulated significant experience in managing large scale mining operations and building institutional capacity to support the industry.

The minister also pointed to the presence of the state owned Botswana Minerals Development Company and a recently established exploration company, noting that both entities are positioned to explore opportunities beyond Botswana’s borders. Potential collaboration across the African continent, including in Côte d’Ivoire, formed part of the discussions.

Officials noted that Côte d’Ivoire has recorded recent mineral discoveries, which have contributed to growing interest in expanding exploration and development activities.

The meeting formed part of broader efforts to strengthen regional cooperation in resource development, with both countries examining avenues for technical collaboration, investment partnerships and shared sector growth across Africa.
