Botswana’s NDB Secures $10 Million Loan to Strengthen Agricultural Financing. The National Development Bank (NDB) has secured a $10 million (approximately P133 million) loan facility from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) to support seasonal agricultural financing in Botswana.

The funds, currently at the drawdown stage, are earmarked for farmers in Pandamatenga and Mosisedi, two of the country’s key grain-producing regions. These areas are critical to Botswana’s national food security strategy and play a significant role in reducing dependence on food imports.

BADEA provides both financing and technical support to public and private sector institutions across Africa. Its programs focus on agriculture, infrastructure, rural development, and social projects, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

The partnership strengthens NDB’s mandate to drive sustainable economic development and supports the objectives outlined in the Botswana Economic Transformation Plan. By improving access to seasonal farming inputs, the facility aims to increase productivity, improve crop yields, and contribute to broader economic outcomes in rural communities.

NDB Chief Executive Officer Ogone Madisa described the facility as a “strong vote of confidence” in the Bank’s strategic direction. She highlighted that ring-fencing the funds for Pandamatenga and Mosisedi farmers directly contributes to national food security, rural livelihoods, and economic resilience.

The collaboration also reinforces the longstanding relationship between BADEA and NDB, creating opportunities for future partnerships in climate-resilient agriculture, green financing, and infrastructure development. These initiatives are seen as essential pillars for Botswana’s long-term sustainable growth and inclusive economic transformation.

This facility marks a significant step in supporting Botswana’s farmers, enhancing local agricultural capacity, and aligning financial resources with national development priorities.
