Clay, Colour and Creativity Shape the Journey of Artist Tshwax. Visual artist Bantshwanetse Kebalepile, widely known as Tshwax, is being highlighted for her creative journey that began in early childhood and continues to evolve within Botswana’s art landscape.

Born in Ghanzi in the early 1990s and originally from Madinare in the North West District, Tshwax’s connection to art started before she entered primary school. As a young child, she spent her time moulding small sculptures of cows and donkey carts from clay and crafting wire-frame toy cars using discarded wire and boxes. These early activities laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong artistic path.

When she began formal schooling, her interest in art deepened. She developed a strong appreciation for colour, drawing and sculpting, and consistently excelled in Art and Design throughout her academic years. Her work earned merits, helping her refine her technique and build confidence in her creative expression.

Nature remains a central source of inspiration in her work. Tshwax describes her artistic influence as limitless, pointing to the changing patterns of clouds, flowing streams, waterfalls, valleys, mountains and rainbows as visual elements that spark her urge to paint or draw. This connection to the natural world continues to shape the themes and energy found in her art.

She is an active member of the Botswana Visual Arts Association, where she engages with other artists and contributes to the country’s visual arts community. Tshwax is managed by Sonic Sounds (Pty) Ltd, trading as Artist Connect, an artist management company under the directorship of Mr City Thobane.

Her work is promoted under the banner “Tshwax Art Corner” through Sonic Sounds. Those interested in her artwork can make enquiries via phone at +267 76 302 622 or +267 76 279 626, or by email at tshwax@hotmail.com.

The feature places a spotlight on a homegrown artist whose creative roots stretch back to childhood and continue to grow within Botswana’s arts scene.
