Botswana Diamonds Expands Portfolio with Eight New Copper Prospecting Licences. Botswana Diamonds Plc has secured eight copper-focused prospecting licences in the country’s north-west region, marking a notable expansion of its minerals exploration activities. The newly awarded licences cover a combined area of approximately 7,000 square kilometres.
According to the company, the licences are valid until 31 December 2028. In addition to copper, the areas are understood to hold potential for gold and other critical minerals, broadening the scope of exploration opportunities within the newly acquired ground.
The selection of the licence areas followed an assessment process that incorporated artificial intelligence-driven analysis. Botswana Diamonds said the evaluation drew on its extensive exploration database, which spans roughly 95,000 square kilometres. This database includes about 375,000 line kilometres of geophysical data collected over time.
Through this technology-based review, the company identified zones considered to have strong copper prospectivity. The move reflects a data-led approach to prioritising exploration targets within Botswana’s mineral-rich landscapes.
Botswana Diamonds has previously applied similar proprietary technology in its diamond exploration work. Using these methods, the company reported the identification of six kimberlite-prone areas that had not been previously documented. It currently holds licences over those areas as part of its broader exploration portfolio.
The award of the new copper prospecting licences signals a continued focus on diversifying exploration beyond diamonds while making use of existing technical resources and historical datasets. By combining geophysical information with advanced analytical tools, the company aims to refine how it selects and evaluates potential mineral targets.
With the licences now in place, Botswana Diamonds is positioned to advance early-stage exploration activities in the north-west region within the validity period granted under the new prospecting rights.
