President Boko Assesses Healthcare Service Delivery at Princess Marina Hospital. President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko today visited Princess Marina Hospital alongside Minister of Health Dr Stephen Modise and senior government officials to assess the state of healthcare service delivery in Botswana.

The visit focused on patient welfare, the availability of medicines, hospital infrastructure, and the condition of medical equipment. During engagements with management and staff, the President emphasised the need for urgent and decisive action to resolve long standing challenges within the current year.

Several critical issues were identified during the assessment, including overcrowding in key service areas, limited diagnostic capacity, and outdated medical machinery. The President highlighted the pressure placed on Princess Marina Hospital as a national referral facility and stressed the importance of strengthening diagnostic services at other hospitals to ease this burden.

He further underscored the need to upgrade district and referral hospitals so that Princess Marina Hospital can effectively fulfil its mandate as a specialised tertiary referral institution. Improving capacity across the healthcare system was noted as essential to ensuring efficient patient flow and timely access to services.

Matters requiring immediate attention were addressed during the visit. The President committed to ensuring the procurement and delivery of priority medical equipment, including an MRI scanner, an additional CT scanner, and a new X ray machine. These interventions are intended to enhance diagnostic capabilities and support improved clinical decision making.

The visit forms part of Government’s ongoing engagement with healthcare institutions and frontline workers. It reflects a commitment to identifying practical solutions and taking direct action where gaps exist.

Government has reiterated its focus on the gradual but sustained improvement of healthcare services, with an emphasis on accountability, resource optimisation, and patient centred care. The visit to Princess Marina Hospital underscores the importance placed on strengthening public healthcare delivery for all Batswana. The engagement highlighted leadership oversight nationwide.
