SEZA Urges United Action as Botswana Sets Sights on Economic Recovery in 2026. As Botswana enters 2026, the Special Economic Zones Authority has signalled a focus on economic recovery, with its chief executive officer calling for coordinated action across the economy.
In a New Year message, SEZA chief executive officer Tapiwa Masie appealed to leaders in the public and private sectors, investors, entrepreneurs and citizens to work together to strengthen national economic performance.
Masie said the country’s future depends on collaboration, innovation and disciplined execution, rather than expectation alone, while acknowledging pressures arising from the global and regional economic environment. She referenced Botswana’s history of resilience and sound governance, noting that these foundations remain important as the country navigates economic challenges.
According to Masie, SEZA remains focused on unlocking investment, accelerating industrialisation, strengthening value chains and supporting the creation of sustainable employment through the country’s Special Economic Zones. She described the zones as platforms intended to improve competitiveness, diversify the economy and support long term economic transformation.
Masie encouraged stakeholders to act with urgency and purpose, emphasising the importance of converting opportunities into measurable outcomes that can support growth. She said meaningful progress requires collective effort from government, business and communities, working within clear frameworks and shared national objectives.
In concluding her message, Masie wished citizens a productive and prosperous year and said 2026 presents an opportunity for renewed economic momentum and national confidence.
She reiterated that collaboration between institutions, investors and entrepreneurs will be central to translating policy direction into practical initiatives that support diversification, industrial growth and broader participation in economic activity across Botswana during the year.
SEZA stated that ongoing engagement and alignment among stakeholders remain essential as implementation efforts continue within the existing economic policy framework.
