Asia Leads Botswana’s Export Destinations as October Shipments Reach P3.97 Billion. Botswana’s merchandise exports reached P3,969.9 million in October 2025, with Asian markets emerging as the largest destination for outbound shipments, according to the latest trade figures. Asia accounted for more than half of total exports, reinforcing the region’s position as a key market for Botswana’s mineral products during the period.

Exports to Asia were valued at P2,187.6 million, representing 55.1 percent of total merchandise exports. Diamonds dominated shipments to the region, accounting for P1,687.7 million, or 77.1 percent of exports to Asia. Copper followed with exports worth P483.9 million, contributing 22.1 percent to the regional total.

The United Arab Emirates was the leading Asian destination, importing goods valued at P927.8 million, equivalent to 23.4 percent of Botswana’s total exports for the month. India followed with imports worth P519.6 million, representing 13.1 percent, while China ranked third at P483.9 million, or 12.2 percent. Diamonds accounted for shipments to the United Arab Emirates and India, while copper was the only commodity exported to China.

The Southern African Customs Union remained Botswana’s second largest regional market. Exports to SACU countries amounted to P646.7 million, accounting for 16.3 percent of total exports. Machinery and electrical equipment led shipments to the bloc at P256.4 million, representing 39.6 percent of exports to the region. South Africa was the main SACU destination, receiving P574.7 million, largely comprising machinery alongside salt and soda ash.

The European Union accounted for P380.4 million, or 9.6 percent of Botswana’s exports in October. Belgium was the primary EU destination, importing P378.5 million, exclusively in diamonds.Outside these markets, Australia received exports valued at P365.0 million, representing 9.2 percent of total shipments, all of which consisted of copper. The figures provide a snapshot of export performance by destination and commodity for the month, reflecting the composition of Botswana’s merchandise trade during October 2025.
