With a workforce of more than 50 employees, Riotrade operates as a filter cigarette manufacturer accredited to internationally recognised Good Manufacturing Practices by DGS Germany. The company states that it has invested significantly in advanced production infrastructure, aligning its operations with global manufacturing benchmarks while remaining compliant with Botswana’s health and safety regulations.

The Southern African Development Community region has an established tobacco manufacturing presence, particularly in countries such as Malawi, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. Riotrade operates within this broader regional ecosystem, which supports related industries including farming, packaging and transport. Through its operations, the company contributes to Botswana’s manufacturing landscape by supporting economic diversification, employment creation and skills development within the sector.

Riotrade reports that it has partnered with tobacco farmers in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania to source raw materials for its products. Finished products are exported to markets including Zambia, South Africa and Namibia, leveraging Botswana’s participation in trade frameworks such as the SADC Free Trade Agreement, SACU and the SACUM–UK Economic Partnership Agreement.

Looking ahead, the company has outlined plans to expand further into African markets, explore opportunities within the European Union and strengthen partnerships with local distributors. Riotrade products are currently available through major retail outlets including Sefalana, Choppies, Checkers and Spar, as well as selected filling stations.
