Moemedi Malindah Named CEO of Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund to Lead Strategic Growth. Botswana Sovereign Wealth Fund Limited (BSWFL) has announced the appointment of Mr. Moemedi Malindah as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 January 2026. The appointment marks a significant step in positioning the Fund for sustainable growth and long-term value creation.
Mr. Malindah brings over 23 years of extensive executive experience spanning investment management, infrastructure development, regulatory oversight, mining, and corporate governance. He previously served as CEO of the Botswana Public Officers’ Pension Fund (BPOPF) from 2020 to 2025, where he led one of Africa’s largest institutional capital allocators. Under his leadership, BPOPF’s assets grew from approximately BWP 67 billion in 2020 to BWP 128 billion, driven by disciplined investment strategies and strong organisational performance.
Prior to becoming CEO, Malindah was Head of Investment at BPOPF from 2012 to 2020. During this tenure, he achieved 96 percent portfolio growth and a 10.1 percent annualised return, placing the Fund’s performance among the top quartile globally. He also played a pivotal role in shaping Botswana’s institutional investment landscape, co-founding the Botswana Bond Market Association and supporting the establishment of the Capital Markets Department at NBFIRA.

Mr. Malindah holds a Master of Business Administration, a Bachelor of Engineering, and has completed CFA Level I. He is a member of the Global Association of Risk Professionals and currently serves as Chairman of DECI Investment, while sitting on the boards of Mascom Pty Ltd and Bona Life Pty Ltd, bringing deep governance and risk oversight experience to his new role.
As CEO, Malindah will lead BSWFL through its critical establishment phase, focusing on robust governance frameworks, disciplined investment approaches, operational excellence, and alignment with Botswana’s national development priorities. The Fund’s mandate is to preserve sovereign assets and generate sustainable returns that strengthen the country’s long-term financial resilience.
