Gambling Authority Outlines Economic Opportunities to Chobe District Council. The Gambling Authority met with the Chobe District Council Full Council yesterday to present an update on how Botswana’s regulated gambling sector is positioned to contribute to national economic growth. The engagement highlighted the Authority’s ongoing work and emphasised clear areas where the sector is expected to support the country’s broader development agenda.

During the session, the Authority outlined its focus on strengthening participation in the non mining economy. The presentation detailed how a formal, compliant gambling environment is designed to channel activity into regulated spaces that can be monitored, taxed and aligned with national development priorities. According to the Authority, this framework is an important part of widening the country’s revenue base and encouraging economic diversification.

The briefing also highlighted employment creation as a growing area of contribution. The Authority shared that the sector offers opportunities across operations, technology, compliance, customer service and support functions. By ensuring regulation, licensing and monitoring remain consistent, the Authority indicated that more structured employment pathways can develop within the industry.

Another key point shared with councillors was the sector’s contribution to national revenue. The Authority noted that taxes and levies collected from licensed operators support government programmes. Additionally, the Authority outlined its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, which are designed to benefit communities through targeted projects.

For entrepreneurs in the Chobe region and across Botswana, the presentation offered insight into an emerging sector with formalised participation channels. With regulation ensuring transparent operations, the Authority’s message underscored that compliance and responsible conduct remain central to the sector’s long term viability.

The Authority described the engagement as part of its broader plan to maintain open communication with local leadership. By providing clear information to councils and communities, the Authority aims to strengthen public understanding of how regulated gambling contributes to national development and local economic prospects.
