SEZA Opens Investor Applications as Airport City Takes Shape at SSKIA. Botswana’s push to elevate its economic landscape has taken a major step forward with the Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA) officially opening investor applications for prime commercial plots within the developing Airport City at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA).
The emerging Airport City is a flagship Special Economic Zone designed to anchor Botswana’s vision of becoming a competitive regional hub for aviation, logistics, technology and high-value tourism. Strategically positioned next to the country’s main international gateway, the development aims to attract businesses seeking efficient access to regional and global markets.
SEZA has confirmed steady progress in preparing the zone for large-scale investment. Key bulk infrastructure has already been completed, including a 1.8-kilometre dual carriageway, fully engineered stormwater systems, and comprehensive power, water and sewer reticulation. These foundational services position the area for accelerated commercial and industrial development, strengthening investor confidence.
Construction of 4,000-square-metre advanced factory shells is also underway. Designed for sectors such as light manufacturing, logistics and aviation-related services, the facilities are expected to be ready for occupancy by mid-2026.
More than 90 fully serviced plots—covering a total of 685 hectares—are now available for development. SEZA is encouraging local and international investors to explore opportunities in sectors aligned with Botswana’s diversification priorities. The project is jointly administered by SEZA and the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), ensuring a unified approach to integrating economic infrastructure with aviation-sector growth.
For Botswana entrepreneurs and businesses, the Airport City presents a rare chance to position themselves within a zone that promises seamless connectivity, global market access and modern industrial support.
As investor applications open, Airport City stands as a critical step in Botswana’s broader effort to strengthen competitiveness and drive long-term economic transformation, setting the stage for new ventures in trade, manufacturing and aviation-linked industries.
