MultiChoice Botswana Shines Spotlight on Local Talent with Three New Film Premieres. MultiChoice Botswana has announced the premiere of three locally produced films — Route 2, Abashwe, and Moporofete: The Prophet — set to air exclusively on Mzansi Magic this November. The releases mark another significant milestone in Botswana’s growing film industry, showcasing the country’s creativity, talent, and cultural depth.
The three films, created by Botswana filmmakers Afentse Fenny Lekolwane, Johnson Otlaadisa, and Tumelo Chaba, highlight the diversity of local storytelling and the country’s expanding footprint in the regional entertainment market.
Route 2 delivers a visually powerful and emotionally resonant journey of survival and rediscovery, inviting viewers to experience life’s unpredictable paths. Moporofete: The Prophet explores the complex themes of betrayal, revenge, and redemption as a man’s quest for justice tests his faith and humanity. Meanwhile, Abashwe presents a heartfelt portrayal of love and trust through the story of a single mother rediscovering the courage to be vulnerable.
MultiChoice Botswana Managing Director Stephanie Pillay expressed pride in the company’s ongoing efforts to elevate local filmmaking. She noted that supporting homegrown productions not only celebrates Botswana’s creative spirit but also stimulates job creation and investment within the cultural economy.
“These films represent the incredible talent we have in Botswana. By sharing these stories with regional audiences, we continue to strengthen the foundation of our local film industry,” said Pillay.
The films are scheduled to air throughout November: Abashwe on 15 November, Moporofete: The Prophet on 22 November, and Route 2 on 29 November, all at 19:00 hrs on Mzansi Magic.
