Botswana to Establish International Financial Centre to Boost Investment Appeal. Botswana is set to strengthen its position as a leading investment destination in Africa through the establishment of the Botswana International Financial Centre (BIFC) — a national initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s competitiveness and global financial standing.

Delivering the 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko announced that the BIFC will serve as a trusted and well-regulated gateway for international investment and financial services into Africa. The move represents a strategic effort to attract high-value investors, diversify the economy, and position Botswana as a financial hub within the region.

“In an effort to strengthen the position of Botswana as an attractive destination for investment, we continue to take progressive steps. It is in this spirit that we are establishing the Botswana International Financial Centre — a bold national initiative that will position our country as a well-regulated and trusted gateway for international investment and financial services into Africa,” said President Boko.

The creation of the BIFC is expected to draw foreign direct investment, promote financial innovation, and stimulate job creation across key sectors such as banking, fintech, and corporate services.

Industry observers note that Botswana’s long-standing reputation for political stability, sound governance, and transparent regulatory systems provides a strong foundation for the success of the BIFC. The initiative will also align with broader national goals under the upcoming National Development Plan, focusing on economic diversification and international competitiveness.
