Botswana Hosts Inaugural Deep Tech for Africa Program to Accelerate Science-Driven Innovation. Botswana is set to host 19 pioneering startups selected for the inaugural Deep Tech for Africa Program, a collaboration between the MIT Kuo Sharper Center for Prosperity and Entrepreneurship, Material Impact, and the Government of Botswana. The programme aims to empower African scientists and engineers who are transforming advanced research into scalable ventures that address the continent’s most critical challenges.
Scheduled for November 10–16, 2025, and held in partnership with the Botswana Digital & Innovation Hub, the initiative will bring together innovators working across sectors such as health, agriculture, renewable energy, mining, and industrial innovation. Participants will engage in an immersive week of mentorship, venture-building workshops, and strategy sessions with MIT faculty, global deep tech entrepreneurs, and Material Impact’s leadership team.
The program underscores Botswana’s growing role as a regional innovation hub, fostering collaboration between government, academia, and private enterprise. The selected startups represent a new generation of African innovators developing solutions ranging from AI-powered femtech and bio-nanomaterials to autonomous farm robotics and next-generation energy systems.
Dina H. Sherif, Executive Director of the MIT Kuo Sharper Center, emphasised the importance of such initiatives in driving inclusive economic growth. “Deep tech is central to solving the most pressing challenges of our time. By offering African scientists the right education, networks, and support, we can unlock innovations that will drive prosperity across Botswana, the continent, and the world,” she said.
Entrepreneurs, investors, and stakeholders can join the Kickoff Event on Monday, November 10, at 9:00 AM (CAT) via this link to celebrate the start of this transformative journey for Africa’s science-driven ventures.
