Morupule Coal Mine Strengthens Education-Industry Collaboration Through Student Exposure Tour. Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) recently hosted students and lecturers from Palapye Technical College (PATECO) for an industrial exposure visit designed to enhance technical education through practical experience.

The initiative brought together 36 students specialising in Welding, Fabrication, and Maintenance Fitting, along with nine lecturers, for a guided tour of MCM’s operational facilities. The engagement aimed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world industrial practice, providing students with firsthand insight into modern mining operations, safety standards, and environmental management.

During the tour, students were introduced to MCM’s surface workshop by Maintenance Coordinator, Engineering Seagiso Tito, who demonstrated key aspects of maintenance processes. They also visited the coal beneficiation plant, led by Plant Foreman, Nonofo Galeeme, who explained how the mine ensures production efficiency and quality control across its operations.

The visit reaffirmed MCM’s dedication to youth empowerment and skills development, aligning with its core values of Stakeholder Focus and Safety and Health. By collaborating with institutions like PATECO, MCM continues to promote knowledge exchange and prepare young Batswana for the demands of Botswana’s growing industrial and mining sectors.

Representing the student body, PATECO SRC President, Amos Seemo, expressed appreciation to MCM for the opportunity, noting that the tour had deepened their understanding of the link between theory and industry application.

MCM continues to strengthen its partnerships with local educational institutions, positioning itself as a catalyst for Botswana’s long-term skills development and industrial growth.
