Absa Bank Botswana Unveils Innovative Payment Solutions to Simplify Digital Banking. Absa Bank Botswana has unveiled its new Absa Payment Solutions, introducing a suite of digital innovations designed to make transactions faster, smarter, and more convenient for customers. The announcement was made during a live demonstration attended by members of the press, marking a significant milestone in the bank’s ongoing digital transformation journey.

Speaking at the event, Acting Retail Director, John D’souza, described the launch as a major step toward reshaping how customers experience everyday banking. He emphasized that the new solutions aim to give clients greater control and flexibility in managing their payments—whether locally or internationally—directly from their mobile devices or wearable technology.

The demonstration showcased Absa’s Virtual Card, a secure digital version of a customer’s debit or credit card that lives on mobile phones and compatible devices. Customers can now make seamless, contactless payments without the need for a physical card, reducing risks associated with card loss or swapping..

In addition, Absa introduced Absa Pay—available through the Absa Mobile Banking App—and Garmin Pay, which allows payments via NFC-enabled Garmin smartwatches. Both options are built to deliver a frictionless payment experience, catering to an increasingly digital-first customer base.

Another standout feature is the Absa Multi-Currency Prepaid Virtual Card, which allows users to load and manage up to five currencies: Botswana Pula (BWP), British Pound (GBP), US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), and South African Rand (ZAR). This innovation eliminates the hassle of currency conversions and enables easy global transactions for business and travel.

The launch of Absa Payment Solutions signals a strong commitment by the bank to lead digital banking innovation in Botswana, ensuring customers enjoy seamless, secure, and modern payment experiences.
