Leviathan Gold Expands into Botswana with Acquisition of Cura Exploration. Canadian exploration company Leviathan Gold Ltd. (TSXV: LVX) has announced its official entry into Botswana’s mining sector following shareholder approval for the acquisition of Cura Exploration Botswana Corp.
The transaction gives Leviathan full ownership of Cura’s copper and uranium exploration assets located within Botswana’s Kalahari Copper Belt—an area recognised as one of Southern Africa’s most prospective mineral regions.
Through the acquisition, Leviathan secures a strategic foothold in a resource-rich zone that has attracted growing international attention for its copper potential. The company stated that the portfolio offers an opportunity to diversify its operations beyond its Australian base and strengthen its global exploration presence.
Following the completion of the transaction, Leviathan will rebrand its Botswana operations to reflect its expanded geographic and commodity focus. The rebranding marks the beginning of what the company described as a long-term commitment to responsible exploration and investment in Botswana’s mining industry.
Leviathan’s entry adds to the growing list of international mining firms showing confidence in Botswana’s mineral policy framework, which continues to attract exploration capital through its transparency and regulatory stability.
The acquisition also positions Botswana to benefit from potential future exploration activity and investment inflows in the copper and uranium sectors, both key to global clean energy and industrial development trends.
Leviathan Gold’s move is expected to further raise Botswana’s profile as an emerging exploration hub within the region, aligning with the country’s ambitions to diversify and expand its mining base beyond diamonds.
