Absa MD Calls for Inclusive Investment Model to Drive Botswana’s Next Growth Chapter. Absa Bank Botswana Managing Director, Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane, has urged the nation’s business and investment community to rethink its approach to growth by prioritising inclusion, transparency, and measurable citizen participation.

Speaking at the Botswana Mining Show, Ms. Pheko-Moshagane emphasised that Botswana’s next phase of economic transformation will depend on how effectively capital can be aligned with community needs and sustainable local value creation.

“Botswana’s next growth chapter depends on how boldly we reimagine our investment model. If we can align capital with community, investment with inclusion, and mining with beneficiation, then Botswana will not just recover; it will transform,” she said.

She further highlighted the importance of data-driven development, calling for metrics that track local impact. “We must embrace metrics and transparency because what gets measured gets managed. We need to track the results of citizen participation based on how much is spent on citizen suppliers, how many local jobs are created, and how much value is added locally.”

Her remarks resonated strongly with the event’s theme of accelerating Botswana’s economic diversification beyond raw mineral exports. By integrating beneficiation, skills development, and citizen empowerment into the investment framework, Ms. Pheko-Moshagane said Botswana can position itself as a regional benchmark for inclusive growth.

As Botswana pursues Vision 2036 goals, the call from Absa’s Managing Director reinforces the private sector’s role in ensuring that economic progress translates into tangible benefits for local communities and entrepreneurs.

The Botswana Mining Show brought together leaders from mining, finance, and policy to discuss the future of sustainable investment, beneficiation, and citizen economic empowerment in the country’s evolving minerals landscape.
