Botswana Showcases Civic Leadership and Tourism Potential at Africa Civil Society Conference. Botswana this week plays host to the Africa Civil Society Conference, a three-day high-level engagement convened from 15th to 17th October 2025 in Gaborone. The event, organised by the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs in collaboration with the Civic Advisory Hub (CAH) and its partners, underscores Botswana’s growing influence in promoting governance, compliance, and civic participation across the continent.

Held under the theme “Placing Civic Space at the Heart of Combating Money Laundering, Countering Terrorism, and its Financing in Africa,” the conference brings together more than 120 delegates, including representatives from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), African Union (AU), World Bank, IMF, and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The discussions aim to strengthen regional alignment with Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards while reinforcing Africa’s commitment to transparency and civic space resilience.

Beyond policy dialogue, the event also serves as a strategic opportunity for Botswana’s business and tourism sectors. The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) is leveraging the conference to promote the country’s image as a leading meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) destination.

In collaboration with six local tour operators and artisans, BTO is showcasing Botswana’s diverse cultural and natural attractions to an international audience. This platform allows local entrepreneurs to market their tourism products, establish international networks, and attract future investment opportunities.

As Botswana positions itself at the intersection of governance reform and economic diversification, the Africa Civil Society Conference highlights the nation’s dual focus on strengthening regional partnerships and expanding its global visibility.
