In Botswana’s growing creative economy, Lesedi Mphothwe stands out as one of the nation’s most dynamic voices in film and television. An award-winning film and television practitioner, Lesedi is redefining African storytelling through her leadership, creativity, and commitment to elevating local talent.
As Festival Director of the Pan African Bantu Film Festival, she plays a pivotal role in positioning Botswana as a hub for continental storytelling. Her leadership focuses on strategic partnerships, capacity building, and celebrating authentic African narratives that resonate both locally and internationally.
Lesedi’s professional foundation is backed by strong academic training — holding a Bachelor of Arts in Motion Picture Medium (Honours) and an Associate Degree in Broadcasting and Impact Producing. This blend of artistic and production expertise has enabled her to deliver a range of acclaimed projects, including “Botshelo Jo S5” (Botswood Studios), “Lights Off” (New Look Studios), as well as thought-provoking short films such as “Cell 10”, “Finding Her Song”, and the emotional documentary “Testimony.”
Beyond her productions, Lesedi actively contributes to the global film community. She is a member of both the Global Impact Producers Alliance (GIPA) and the Women in Film Guild Botswana, and has served as a juror for international festivals, including the Mpumalanga International Film Festival and the U.S. Documentary Residency, Botswana.
Her journey embodies what Botswana’s creative entrepreneurs aspire to — a fusion of vision, resilience, and purpose. Through her work, Lesedi continues to expand opportunities for filmmakers, promote cultural exchange, and amplify Botswana’s voice on the global film stage.
