Business Botswana AGM Charts Bold Path for Private Sector LLeadership. Business Botswana marked its 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM) this morning, bringing together members from across its 22 sectors to reaffirm the organisation’s role as the voice of the private sector in shaping Botswana’s economic future.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Farzam Kamalabadi, Presidential Envoy on International Relations and Economic Development, shared insights drawn from China’s transformation. He reminded delegates how ordinary entrepreneurs became billionaires who reshaped their nation, urging Botswana’s business leaders to see themselves not as small enterprises waiting for support but as active drivers of Africa’s next growth wave.

“Mark this point,” he emphasized. “You will not be observers… You will be participants in Africa’s economic wave. The era of Africa is upon us.”

Dr. Kamalabadi pointed to Botswana’s strengths—natural resources, a youthful population, and emerging industries—but stressed that courage and collaboration are essential to unlock the country’s full potential.

Business Botswana President, Mr. Neo Nwako, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the organisation’s commitment to advocating for reforms, influencing policy, and ensuring that the private sector continues to play a central role in national development. He called on members to embrace innovation and leadership as essential tools for growth.

The AGM also confirmed new sector chairs and inducted the Board of Governance, bringing diverse expertise across key industries. Notable appointments included Dr. Thapelo Matsheka (Finance), Mr. Mahube Mpugwa (Petroleum and Chemicals), Mr. Thabiso Titus Paul (Youth), and Mr. Moraki Mokgosana (Health), alongside other sector representatives and specially elected members.

In addition, members reviewed the 2024 Audited Financial Statements and explored sustainable models to strengthen Business Botswana’s operations. The discussions signaled a commitment to innovation, accountability, and value creation for members.
