Betway Commits P1.32 Million to Honour Kebinatshipi and Botswana Athletics. Betway Botswana has pledged P1.32 million to celebrate 400m world champion Busang Collen Kebinatshipi and the national athletics team following their outstanding performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The 21-year-old Kebinatshipi made history by storming to gold in the 400m with a world-leading time of 43.51 seconds before anchoring Botswana to a first-ever African gold in the 4x400m relay. The national team finished the championships with two gold medals and one bronze, marking a milestone achievement for Botswana athletics.
The pledge covers athletes, coaches, and support staff, with funds distributed as follows: P600,000 for gold medallists, P70,000 for the bronze medallist, P150,000 for finalists, P180,000 for semi-finalists, P80,000 for reserves, P35,000 for the head coach, P125,000 for assistant coaches and technical staff, and P80,000 for medical and administrative staff.
Michelle France-Mabiletsa, Betway Botswana Country Manager, said the company’s decision was an easy one. “We are extremely proud of Collen and the team as they have captured the imagination of the country and reaffirmed Botswana’s status in world athletics. This moment is extra special for Betway, as Collen is one of our Betway Cares beneficiaries.”
The Betway Cares Foundation, launched in November 2024, currently supports four athletes: Chedza Julius, Gloria Majaga, Edwin Masuge, and Kebinatshipi.
Kebinatshipi expressed his gratitude, saying the pledge represents recognition of the hard work and sacrifices made by the team. “This medal reflects dedication, tough training, and the support of my coach, teammates, family, and Batswana. Ke a leboga.”
Betway Botswana will host a celebration for Kebinatshipi at their Gaborone offices. The company reiterated its ongoing commitment to grassroots sports, women’s development in sport, and responsible gambling awareness.
