BOFINET Announces Price Cuts Following Network Upgrade. Botswana Fibre Networks (BOFINET) has announced significant reductions in service costs following recent upgrades to its network capacity. Effective September 1, 2025, the changes are expected to improve affordability and expand digital access across the country.
Speaking at a media briefing in Gaborone, BOFINET Acting Chief Executive Officer Keabetswe Segole confirmed that the upgrades have translated into average price reductions of 18% for National Leased Line (NLL) services and 23% for Internet Protocol Transit (IPT) services.
“These cost reductions are a direct outcome of our expanded network capacity, and we encourage our clients to pass on the savings to end consumers,” Segole said. He added that the initiative is aligned with BOFINET’s long-term vision of positioning Botswana as a competitive player in the digital economy.
The development is expected to provide relief to businesses and households that rely heavily on connectivity for operations, trade, and communication. For entrepreneurs and small enterprises in particular, reduced costs could mean greater opportunities to adopt digital tools, expand online services, and enhance competitiveness in both local and regional markets.
Segole further explained that the price cuts form part of BOFINET’s broader digital infrastructure strategy, which aims to strengthen the country’s position as a hub for innovation and technology-driven growth. The company continues to invest in high-capacity infrastructure to support the increasing demand for internet services across Botswana.
Industry observers note that improved affordability of internet services has the potential to unlock new opportunities in e-commerce, financial technology, and remote work, while also boosting government and private sector digital transformation initiatives.
