Botswana and Cyprus Explore New Avenues for Trade and Investment. The Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) yesterday hosted a high-level delegation from the Republic of Cyprus at its head office in the CBD, Gaborone. The delegation included representatives from the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) alongside leading Cypriot companies active in information and communication technology (ICT), health, and education.

The business forum marks another step in Botswana’s broader strategy to diversify its economy and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into key growth sectors. For local entrepreneurs and business leaders, the engagement provided a rare opportunity to connect directly with Cypriot counterparts, explore joint ventures, and position Botswana as a competitive investment destination.

BITC highlighted that the forum is not only about building bilateral relations but also about advancing Botswana’s economic policy objectives. With ICT, health, and education singled out as critical enablers of long-term development, the discussions with Cyprus open pathways for skills transfer, knowledge exchange, and potential capital inflows.

For Botswana businesses, the engagement presents practical opportunities to collaborate on projects ranging from digital transformation and e-health solutions to academic partnerships. Local enterprises stand to benefit from exposure to international expertise and potential access to new markets through Cypriot networks.

The visit further underscores the importance of strategic international partnerships in unlocking growth opportunities for Botswana. By creating direct linkages between businesses, the forum sets the stage for future trade agreements, investment inflows, and collaborative projects that could support Botswana’s economic transformation agenda.

The BITC reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating such platforms, ensuring that local businesses remain at the heart of Botswana’s efforts to build a diversified, export-led economy.
