Gambling Authority Highlights Industry’s Economic Role at Bobirwa Council Meeting. The Gambling Authority has underscored the role of Botswana’s gambling sector in driving economic activity and promoting responsible gaming during a presentation at the Bobirwa District City Full Council meeting.
The Authority was represented by Chief Strategy Officer, Kutlo Mokgosana, and Compliance and Monitoring Inspector, Kgosi Mogende. Their participation formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen stakeholder engagement and highlight the sector’s contributions to local development
In their address, the Authority provided an overview of its mandate, emphasising the importance of ensuring a diversified, compliant, and safe gambling industry that benefits communities across Botswana. The presentation outlined the sector’s potential for job creation, investment opportunities, and revenue generation, while also pointing to the challenges that require careful regulation to ensure sustainability.
The officials further updated the council on recent licensing activities, showcasing how formalised operations contribute to the growth of legitimate enterprises while curbing unregulated practices. Attention was also given to the Authority’s focus on promoting responsible gambling and protecting vulnerable individuals through monitoring and awareness initiatives.
For the business community in the Bobirwa region, the engagement highlighted how the gambling industry can serve as both a revenue stream and a driver of related economic activities, from tourism to retail. By fostering compliance and encouraging investment, the Authority aims to unlock long-term opportunities that align with Botswana’s broader vision of inclusive growth and improved quality of life.
The meeting reinforced the need for collaboration between regulators, councils, and businesses to ensure that the gambling industry contributes positively to district and national development.
