BDC Warns Entrepreneurs Against Fake “AUEDP” Grant Offers. The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has issued an urgent warning to businesses and entrepreneurs regarding fraudulent claims circulating on social media about grant funding under the so-called “African Union Economic Development Programme (AUEDP).”
According to BDC, these claims are entirely false, and the organisation has no affiliation with the programme. Entrepreneurs and businesses are advised not to engage with anyone promising funding under the AUEDP, as these offers are scams designed to exploit unsuspecting applicants.
BDC emphasised that it does not provide any grant funds of this nature at present and is actively taking steps to address the situation. The Corporation called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious messages or contacts claiming to represent the organisation in relation to the AUEDP.
The warning comes at a time when many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Botswana are seeking funding opportunities to grow their businesses and expand into regional markets. BDC encouraged entrepreneurs to rely only on official channels for funding and business support, including its website and verified communication platforms.
The Corporation further urged business owners to educate employees, partners, and peers about the scam, helping to prevent financial losses and reputational damage. Entrepreneurs are reminded that legitimate funding opportunities will always be communicated directly by official government or BDC channels.
