GBN Youthpreneur Challenge Launched to Tackle Youth Unemployment. A new initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment in Botswana has been launched in Gaborone Bonnington North (GBN). The Assistant Minister for State President and Member of Parliament for Gaborone Bonnington North, Hon. Maipelo Mophuting, officially unveiled the GBN Youthpreneur Challenge this week, in partnership with Market Players.

The programme comes at a time when youth unemployment in Botswana stands at 45.4%, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable solutions that foster economic participation. The GBN Youthpreneur Challenge seeks to harness entrepreneurship as a tool for empowerment, offering young people structured support to grow their businesses.

The nine-month initiative will take 35 youth-owned companies through a comprehensive process that includes training, mentorship, and coaching. At the end of the programme, 10 standout entrepreneurs will be selected to receive funding to scale their enterprises. Organizers say this approach will not only equip participants with skills but also provide them with access to resources that can create lasting business impact.

Speaking at the launch, Hon. Mophuting emphasized the importance of innovation and collaboration in empowering the next generation. She commended the business community and stakeholders who attended the event, noting their support as a crucial factor in making the programme a success.
