China Hands Over Forensic Autopsy Laboratories to Botswana in Landmark Partnership. Botswana has received a major boost in its health and justice infrastructure following the official handover of the Forensic Autopsy Laboratory from the Government of China. The facility, which includes renovations and equipment upgrades at the Northern Jubilee Hospital Mortuary, is expected to strengthen the nation’s post-mortem capacity and enhance the fight against crime.

The handover comes as Botswana and China celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, a milestone that has seen the partnership evolve across trade, infrastructure, and socio-economic development. Minister for State President, Hon. Moeti Caesar Mohwasa, accepted the facility on behalf of Botswana, describing the gesture as both timely and impactful.

“This project is not only a symbol of friendship but also a tangible investment in Botswana’s justice system and healthcare delivery,” Mohwasa said. He emphasized that the new facilities will help ensure efficiency in forensic investigations, which are crucial for upholding justice and maintaining public confidence in national institutions.

For entrepreneurs and the business community, the development signals wider opportunities that come with strengthened Botswana-China cooperation. Investments in health and justice systems create an environment of stability—an essential factor for attracting investment, fostering innovation, and building resilient industries. Reliable forensic infrastructure also supports sectors such as insurance, legal services, and private healthcare, enabling local businesses to operate in a more structured and secure environment.

China’s contribution underscores its continued role as a strategic partner in Botswana’s long-term growth story. As the country positions itself as a regional hub for investment and trade, such developments highlight the value of strong international collaborations in driving sustainable progress.
