Kalafhi Medical Centre Launches Affordable Care Initiative Amid Supply Shortages. Botswana’s healthcare sector is facing pressure following the Ministry of Health’s confirmation of ongoing shortages of medicines and medical supplies in public health facilities. In response, Kalafhi Medical Centre has introduced a three-month initiative aimed at improving access to affordable healthcare, particularly for patients without medical insurance.

As part of the programme, Kalafhi’s Main Mall Clinic will offer consultations priced between P50 and P100, excluding consumables such as syringes, dressings, and test strips. The initiative also includes free Saturday consultations, available strictly by booking at least one day in advance. These sessions will be limited and dependent on doctor availability.

Beyond lowering consultation costs, Kalafhi will provide medicines at almost cost price, helping patients secure treatment during a time of constrained national supply. The clinic will also emphasize patient education, ensuring that individuals understand the safe and effective use of prescribed medication.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs and businesses, Kalafhi’s initiative demonstrates the role of the private sector in bridging critical service gaps. By stepping in during a national shortage, the medical centre is positioning itself not only as a healthcare provider but also as a community partner contributing to social equity. This approach underscores opportunities for businesses to combine commercial sustainability with community impact.

The move also highlights the demand for innovative models of healthcare delivery that balance affordability with quality. Entrepreneurs exploring Botswana’s health and wellness space may find inspiration in Kalafhi’s response, particularly in developing patient-centered services that address immediate needs while building trust in the long term.

Kalafhi Medical Centre’s initiative stands as an example of how private healthcare can complement public efforts, ensuring that more Batswana have access to essential medical care during periods of national strain.
