Botswana and Namibia Deepen Gaming Sector Ties Through Regulatory Dialogue. The Gambling Authority of Botswana is currently hosting a high-level delegation from the Lotteries Board of Namibia as part of a two-day exchange aimed at strengthening regulatory cooperation in the gaming and lotteries sector. The official engagement, held from 23–24 July, features site inspections, policy presentations, and strategic discussions centered on a Draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two regulators.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance cross-border collaboration, policy alignment, and the advancement of responsible gambling practices across the region.
Representing the Gambling Authority are Mr. Gaoakanye Tapeng, Board Member, and Mr. Emolemo Peter Kesitilwe, Chief Executive Officer, alongside members of the Authority’s Executive Team. The Namibian delegation is led by Dr. Wycliff Shililifa, Chairperson of the Lotteries Board, and Dr. John Shimaneni, Chief Executive Officer.
The sessions have focused on regulatory frameworks, with Botswana presenting key initiatives that support player protection, compliance oversight, and the promotion of responsible gaming. The discussions aim to support mutual understanding of regulatory approaches while laying the groundwork for a more formalised working relationship.
For Botswana’s gaming industry stakeholders and entrepreneurs, this engagement signals a growing focus on regulatory maturity, regional cooperation, and the development of policy environments that protect players while supporting industry growth.
The proposed MoU is expected to enable future knowledge exchange, technical collaboration, and more harmonised standards across borders—fostering a more stable and transparent gaming ecosystem in Southern Africa.
