President Boko Charts Bold Economic Path with Transformation Programme. President Advocate Duma Boko has set in motion a new direction for Botswana’s economy, unveiling key priorities under the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) during a high-level Cabinet workshop. The initiative is designed to diversify the economy, reduce overreliance on diamonds, and tackle persistent unemployment through targeted sectoral growth.

Addressing ministers and senior officials, President Boko emphasised the urgency of change, calling for decisive leadership and accountability. “This is not business as usual,” he noted, urging government departments to become drivers of transformation rather than custodians of routine.

The ETP outlines a strategic framework for expanding Botswana’s economic base by investing in agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and digital services. These sectors have been identified as high-potential growth areas that can create employment, attract investment, and drive long-term sustainability.

The programme also incorporates lessons from successful international development models and integrates public consultation feedback, aiming to ensure that reforms are grounded in both global best practice and local realities.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs and business community, the ETP signals a significant shift in policy direction, one that prioritises economic inclusivity and private sector participation.
