Botswana Unveils Bold Economic Overhaul, Plans Global Airport and High-Value Job Creation. Botswana has embarked on an ambitious economic transformation journey, with President Advocate Duma Boko unveiling plans to build a world-class global airport and logistics hub as part of a sweeping national overhaul. The announcement was made during the official launch of the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP), a bold initiative aimed at repositioning the country as a globally competitive economy.

President Boko described the programme as a call to action, designed to eliminate bureaucratic delays and usher in a delivery-focused culture capable of executing large-scale projects with precision and urgency. “We will not crawl — we will sprint,” he declared. “This is a mission to attract serious investment and create wealth and prosperity for all.”.

Vice President and Minister of Finance Ndaba Gaolathe outlined a range of transformative projects under the BETP, including the development of a global airport, strategic cargo corridors connecting Botswana to Namibia, Kazungula, and the South African ports through Lephalale. These developments aim to position Botswana as a key trade and logistics hub in the region.

For local entrepreneurs and business leaders, the programme signals unprecedented opportunity — not only in infrastructure and logistics, but in supporting sectors such as construction, technology, hospitality, and agri-processing. The government’s focus on high-value job creation and export-led growth creates fertile ground for private-sector participation.
