Botswana Engineers Embrace Mentorship at Women in Engineering Roundtable. Botswana’s engineering and business communities came together in a powerful display of unity and support during the International Women in Engineering Commemoration hosted by New Era College. The roundtable discussion, held under the theme “Mentorship Matters: Building Stronger Networks for Women Engineers,” brought together key stakeholders to explore how mentorship can accelerate inclusion and innovation within the STEM fields.

The event was proudly sponsored by First Capital Bank, whose presence reaffirmed the role of the private sector in championing diversity and talent development in Botswana’s technical workforce. The roundtable attracted industry leaders, educators, students, and policy advocates committed to closing the gender gap in engineering.

Participants explored how mentorship can transform careers by providing access to guidance, opportunities, and industry networks. Discussions focused on the need for structured mentorship programmes, peer learning platforms, and cross-sector partnerships to support women engineers from education to leadership levels.

The event also highlighted the importance of including women engineers in national development goals, especially as Botswana continues to invest in infrastructure, digital transformation, and sustainable industries. By enabling more women to thrive in engineering roles, businesses and public institutions alike can benefit from diverse perspectives and a stronger, more innovative talent pipeline.
