Beijing Agrifam Commits P1 Billion to Boost Botswana’s Beef Export Readiness. Beijing Agrifam Co. Ltd has announced a major investment of P1 billion towards the development of feedlot infrastructure in Botswana, aimed at preparing local beef for export to China. The announcement was made during a recent high-level engagement between the company’s executives and Botswana’s Minister of International Relations, Dr Phenyo Butale, in Beijing.
The infrastructure project is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Botswana’s meat industry and improve the quality and volume of beef exports to international markets, particularly China. According to the company, the planned feedlots will ensure that cattle meet China’s import standards before entering the distribution chain.
Beijing Agrifam also revealed its partnership with CITIC Group, a major Chinese state-owned investment company. Under this agreement, CITIC Group will serve as the buyer of the feedlot-prepared beef and manage distribution within China.
The development marks a significant milestone in Botswana’s ambitions to diversify agricultural exports and expand value-added production in the beef sector. Entrepreneurs in the agri-business value chain—including feed suppliers, cattle breeders, logistics providers, and smallholder farmers—stand to benefit from improved infrastructure and new export channels.
The investment reflects growing international confidence in Botswana’s beef industry and offers a promising opportunity for local players in the agriculture sector to align with export-focused growth.
