Future of Mining Summit 2025 Opens in Gaborone with Focus on Investment and Local Opportunities. The Future of Mining Summit 2025 officially opened today in Gaborone under the theme “New Opportunities, Smart Partnerships.” Now in its second year, the two-day event brings together leaders from government, the private sector, and investors to strengthen collaboration and identify growth opportunities in Botswana’s evolving mining landscape.
Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Keletsositse Olebile, delivered a keynote presentation at the opening session, offering a comprehensive view of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) trends and Botswana’s competitive position in the global market. Highlighting renewable energy as a high-potential sector, Mr. Olebile encouraged stakeholders to move beyond raw mineral exports and focus on beneficiation strategies to add value locally.
Mr. Olebile also emphasized the country’s strengths in attracting investment, citing Botswana’s proximity to regional markets, a skilled workforce, and a stable regulatory environment. He concluded by inviting attendees to participate in the upcoming Global Expo Botswana, scheduled for 8–11 October 2025.
The Summit was officially opened by the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Hon. Bogolo J. Kenewendo. In her address, she outlined several government-led reforms aimed at enabling greater local participation in the mining sector. The Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating a more inclusive and opportunity-rich mining industry.
