Gaborone City Council Shuts Down Pie Time Over Health Violations. The Gaborone City Council (GCC) has taken decisive action against food safety violations by temporarily shutting down Pie Time, a food outlet operating in the Gaborone West Industrial area.

According to city health officials, the closure comes after the premises were found to be in breach of multiple public health regulations. A recent inspection revealed that the establishment did not meet the minimum standards required for food preparation and hygiene.

During the operation, council authorities confiscated and safely disposed of various food items in accordance with provisions outlined in the Public Health Act and Food Control Act. In addition to poor sanitary conditions, Pie Time was also found to have employed staff who lacked valid medical certificates of fitness — a key requirement for individuals working in food-related environments.

The GCC emphasized that the move is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure all food vendors within the city operate under safe, clean, and lawful conditions. Officials reiterated their commitment to protecting public health and urged all food businesses to adhere strictly to hygiene regulations and licensing conditions.

The council has not confirmed when Pie Time will be allowed to reopen, stating that the establishment must first address all non-compliance issues and meet the necessary standards set by health authorities.
